I've started reading this book. I find Karen Armstrong's book absolutely fascinating. Thanks for the post. Very appropriate for the new year in Sunday School.

Thanks for the comment, Todd. I found the middle chapters on how later Jewish and Christian readers interpreted the Bible interesting, but the central issues for me are always the formation of the texts and canon in the early years, and the encounters with modernity in the last couple of centuries.
