In the past, locksmiths were only known to work with locks. They would either make them, or repair them. At times they would cut keys or install locks. But today, things are changing and a locksmith now deals with a lot more.
To start with, locksmiths nowadays have a great deal to do with the security of a home. This is because they install security systems, alarms and locks. Most of the systems are usually complicated and need a lot of expertise. So, this is a long way from the job description that olden locksmiths used to do.
Furthermore, these professionals are also well versed in the installation of safes and other security related devices in a home. They can configure safes, or they can place CCTV systems to help monitor the activity in a home.
Lastly, locksmiths today also deal with car locks, and even provide emergency and mobile services to clients who need them. In order to do such jobs effectively, they normally use vans that are loaded with all their tools so that they can deal with any problem that they encounter.
So, the job description that modern locksmiths have is very different from the one that was held by locksmiths who practiced in the past. The job is varied today and sophisticated.
